Where on Chromosome is the Problem?

The problem originates on a defection of the 15th chromosome, when the body lacks enough hexosaminidase A, a special protein that enhances nerve cells in the brain.

What is the Problem?

The genetic disorder is known to often inflict babies at around 6 months of age, and kills them by the time they are 4 years old. Due to the effects the syndrome has on the brain, victims experience deafness, blindness, deterioration of muscles and loss of muscle motor skills, early dementia, delayed mental and social skills, irritability, paralysis, seizures, and extremely slow growth.

What is the Prognosis?

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure to the disease. There are only known psychological ways in which to ease the patient's mind.
